History[]
The Partido Colorado maintained in power by a series of 'self-coups' by president Alfredo Baldomir in 1942 and 1943. Baldomir died in office in 1948. During his regime Uruguay developed close ties with its neighbours Argentina and Brazil and with the Colorado regime in Paraguay.
