HistoryEdit

In 1946 Great Britain agreed to evacute Palestine as the territory became ungovernable, on condition that Germany did not occupy the region. British forces retreated to the east bank of the Jordan and to the Canal Zone in Egypt.

Palestine was occupied by forces from Axis forces based in Egypt and Lebanon, with the Lebanese Phalanx playing an especially important role. The Phalanx, acting as proxies for Germany, declared their actions in Palestine to be a Crusade and were rewarded with the annexation of the territory around Nazareth to Lebanon.

The remaining territory was made the personal fief of the House of Hussein, led by the ardently pro-German Grand Mufti, Haj Amin al-Hussaini. The Grand Mufti resisted attempts by the Kingdom of Jordan to reunify with Palestine, even arranging the assassination of the King, Abdullah I bin Hussein. He was however unable to prevent Italy, in concert with Greece and Romania, taking control of the western part of Jerusalem.
